What's your favorite way to keep in touch? Phone, snail mail, email, text message, Vox, _____ ?
(I have two ways to answer this question. First, because I love you all so very much, I'll give you the somewhat-snarky rendition.)
My favorite way to keep in touch is by putting forth some effort to keep in touch, by whatever means are appropriate. It doesn't really matter what technology is employed, does it?
(And now I'll answer what the question probably meant, which is "What's your favorite communication tool?")
I'm a big, big fan of email. I can answer it on my own time, and yet it can be quite quick and painless if circumstances are in both my favor and that of my correspondent. I also like instant messaging when available, and text messages on the phone are a passable substitute. I'm not big on actual phone calls, but I can manage for a good cause. After that it depends on how close to someone I am. Some people I keep in touch with mainly by leaving comments on their website, for instance.
(If you'll excuse my doing so, I'm now going to copy the general spirit of Frykitty's recent spiel on this same issue.)
Filed under Why Didn't I Notice This Sooner: What in the name of all that's holy is the deal with these extra, stupid, tags on the QotDs? "Reach out"? When am I going to use that ever again? And don't tell me it's so that people can search on that tag for everyone who's used it, thus expanding my possible audience. You know what? If I leave that tag in place it does only one thing: It makes me one of the big, faceless crowd. It has only the slimmest chance of helping me gain eyeballs (as if I gave a rat's ass about that!) and to gain that chance I have to look at a stupid tag I wouldn't have chosen for myself and will never use again? Thanks, but no. And while I'm at it, I went ahead and yanked "morning beverage" and "childhood" and some other inane tags from earlier QotD entries I've made.
QotD has its own tag. Let that be good enough. Please. Oh, wait: I can add a tag to this one!
I'll call it "vox annoyances". Heh.
