What books are on your nightstand?
First we must clarify something. Are we talking about the actual nightstand, the one that sits at the foot of the bed? It doesn't house any books at the moment, though there's an "impressive" collection of old cassette tapes to point-and-snicker at.
How about the place where my $1000 alarm clock sits? That's my "bookshelf," which in truth is just two moving boxes stacked atop one another and arranged such that I can use them sort of like a bookshelf, only they're much much flimsier than the real thing. As you can now surmise, there are books in and on these boxes, and I'd be here for an hour cataloguing them all.
The structure that actually sits next to and at the head of my bed is a wireframe shelving unit. There are CDs, shelves, knickknacks and... hey, there are some books down there on one of the lower shelves. Let's see...
So, am I well-read enough for y'all?
